About Tsuguji Foujita  (1886-1968)
Tsuguji Foujita (also known as Leonard Foujita) spent many productive years (1913-1929) as a woodblock artist in France, eventually becoming a French citizen in 1955. Although Foujita assimilated Western styles and techniques, the simple intensity of his work has its source in a Japanese regimen of self-contemplation and inner discipline. His prints are in the major museums of the world, including the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y.
