Date: original published in 1859 by the publisher Koyeido, this Showa era strike published by Watanabe from recarved blocks, with round 7mm publisher's seal at middle left above the cartouche
Size: oban, approx.10.5" x 15.5"
Condition: Fine, no flaws, never framed, uncirculated condition
Impression: Fine, solid key lines, tight color registration and good surface texture
Color: Fine, deep saturated color with bleed through to verso
AUTHENTIC HAND CARVED AND HAND PRINTED JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT, by 19th century landscape master Hiroshige. Mt. Fuji is seen from the coast at Satta Point, and a great wave is breaking in on the shore. Considered the masterpiece of he series Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji. (For reference material see "A Guide to Japanese Prints" by Basil Steward, Plate F, page 156.) This series was Hiroshige's last work as he died in the fall of 1858 prior to the publication.
